Why were workers' compensation laws put into effect?

Workers' compensation laws were enacted in the 1930s to give economic protection to employees who got injured on the job. Today, all 50 states have laws providing these protections.

How does workers' compensation help the employer?

Workers' compensation is one of the earlier forms of "no-fault insurance." In return for paying for the program, employees give up their right to sue the company for injuries or illnesses incurred while working.
