ISP Liability

Because ISPs host a variety of Web sites with almost any kind of content imaginable, their ability to monitor the content is limited. However, U.S. copyright laws make it a violation for someone to copy, distribute or display a copyrighted work to the public without the permission of the copyright owner. Thus, the ISP that hosts a Web page with copyrighted content (a music CD available for download, for instance, without the artist's permission) is potentially liable for copyright infringement.
