Types of Impermissable Speech

The right to speak freely is not absolute. For example, obscenity, libel and slander are prohibited. Speech that threatens and intimidates others may be impermissible. Additionally, the place of the speech can act as a bar to free speech. For example, laws may ban signs, distribution of campaign literature and speakers near the perimeter of voting precincts.
